Holmes/Humphreys Release Layers
Holmes/Humphreys County Correctional Facility has more than one public name and more than one legal role. Holmes County calls it the Holmes-Humphreys County/Regional Correctional Facility. MDOC uses Holmes/Humphreys County Correctional Facility, while an offender detail may shorten the location to “Holmes CCF.” Local news may call the same Highway 12 complex the Holmes County jail. These labels point to one physical site. They do not prove that every person there is held under the same authority.
A local booking can involve a pretrial detainee or a person serving a county sentence. The Sheriff and facility hold that booking and release history. An MDOC offender has a state number, sentence record, time computation, transfer history, and possible supervision record held by MDOC. The office that owns the answer follows the person’s legal custody, not the door used to leave the building.
A disappearance from Holmes/Humphreys does not establish community release. It may record a move between the local and MDOC layers.
Where Holmes/Humphreys Releases Go
A local detainee may leave on bond or recognizance, after dismissal, for time served, or under another court order. That person may also transfer to MDOC, another county, federal custody, or immigration custody. A state offender may go to another MDOC unit, enter parole or earned-release supervision, transfer to another authority, or reach full discharge. Each event ends or changes one custody episode, but only some events mean a return to the community.
The local booking/release record should give an effective date and time, a release code or reason, and a destination or receiving agency when the system maintains it. An MDOC number changes the search path. Use the official MDOC Inmate Search by ID when possible, then match name, birth date, conviction county, location, and sentence details. The public detail can show the exact label “Tentative Release Date.” It also shows location and a location-change date. None of those fields alone confirms that an actual release took place.
Next, search the separate MDOC Parolee Search. A match can support parole status, but the Holmes county filter is a supervision or location clue rather than proof that Holmes was the conviction county. Holmes/Humphreys Dual Operation
Mississippi regional facilities operate through agreements with MDOC under their respective sheriffs. MDOC says the sheriff appoints the warden and manages daily administration, staffing, and operations, while the Division of Regional and Private Facilities supplies state oversight. That structure explains why a single building can produce two distinct record trails.
The county’s regional facility page and MDOC’s facility profile show those overlapping roles. A local booking request should not be sent to MDOC merely because the site houses state offenders. In the other direction, the Sheriff’s local record cannot replace MDOC’s sentence calculation or discharge record for a state offender.

Holmes/Humphreys Release Programming
The facility’s local identity also includes education and treatment programs. The county lists GED, adult basic education, alcohol and drug programming, life skills, vocational work, and religious programs. Its page reports ACA accreditation in 2002 and later reaccreditations in 2005, 2008, and 2013. Those dates describe institutional history, not a person’s present custody status.
MDOC ties regional programming to community reintegration. A March 2026 MDOC release documents continuing Holmes programs, including recently completed welding training. Program participation can form part of release planning, yet no program listing proves that a named person completed a course, earned time, or received a release date. The individual MDOC record and time sheet remain controlling.
That difference matters at this facility. Local detainees can leave under a court order without entering MDOC programming, while state offenders may move through an MDOC release plan.
